Teacher-created AI. Student-focused reading.
Smart-Reader.ai was built by an educator with 27 years in the classroom. It grew out of a simple frustration: most reading tools were either passive content libraries or generic AI chatbots. Neither scaffolded thinking the way a great teacher does.
Smart-Reader applies the same instructional moves that work in real classrooms — essential questions, close reading with staged prompts, vocabulary in context, and a graphic organizer that becomes an essay outline — and scales them to every student, every text, and every level of readiness.
The philosophy
AI should make students better thinkers. Smart-Reader is not a summarizer, not a worksheet generator, and not a chatbot. It is a teacher-designed reading experience — thinking-first, evidence-based, and always coaching, never replacing.
- Asking better questions
- Building background knowledge
- Supporting vocabulary in context
- Encouraging evidence-based thinking
- Connecting reading to writing
- Growing independent readers
Who it's for
Middle and high school students, homeschool families, tutors, reading coaches, and classroom teachers. Teachers use it to differentiate instruction across a class. Parents use it to support literacy at home. Students use it to build confidence with complex texts.
The team
Smart-Reader is a solo project built by an educator with 27 years in the classroom and a background in instructional design. The goal is not to replace teachers — it is to give every student access to the kind of guided reading only the best classrooms consistently provide.
