About

Built by a teacher, for the way reading is taught.

Smart-Reader was created out of a simple frustration: most reading tools are just text on a screen. They do not scaffold thinking the way a great teacher does in the classroom.

This app applies the same instructional moves that work in real classrooms — essential questions, literal and inferential prompts, vocabulary in context, and a graphic organizer that becomes an essay outline. The difference is that it scales to every student, every text, and every level of readiness.

The approach

Every reading session starts with a driving question. The text is broken into manageable sections. Read-aloud with word highlighting supports fluency. Close-reading questions move from literal comprehension to inference to evaluation. Vocabulary is taught in context, not isolation. And the graphic organizer becomes a 5-paragraph essay outline you can export and use anywhere.

Who it is for

Smart-Reader is designed for middle and high school students, homeschool families, and anyone building reading fluency and written argumentation. Teachers use it to differentiate instruction. Parents use it to support literacy at home. Students use it to build confidence with complex texts.

The team

Smart-Reader is a solo project built by an educator with 15+ years in the classroom and a background in instructional design. The goal is not to replace teachers — it is to give every student access to the kind of guided reading that only the best classrooms can consistently provide.
