Use Smart-Reader from ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor
One URL, one sign-in. Your AI assistant can browse the novels and readings in your Smart-Reader account and pull the exact text it needs — no copy-pasting, no separate API keys.
MCP Server URL
https://smart-reader.ai/mcp
Uses OAuth — you'll sign in with the same account you use on smart-reader.ai. No API keys.
How it works
1. Add the connector
Paste the MCP URL above into your AI client's connector settings.
2. Sign in
Approve the connection with your Smart-Reader account. Each assistant acts as you.
3. Ask
"Summarize chapter 4 of my Great Gatsby novel" — the AI pulls it from your library.
Set up your AI client
- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings → Connectors → Add connector.
- Paste the URL
https://smart-reader.ai/mcpand continue. - Sign in with your Smart-Reader account when the OAuth window opens, and approve access.
- In any chat, enable the Smart-Reader tool and try:"List my Smart-Reader novels and summarize the last chapter I worked on."
Available tools
Read-only for now. Every tool call runs as the signed-in user under the same access rules as the web app.
list_novelsEvery novel in your Smart-Reader library with chapter count and last update.
get_novelOne novel and its full chapter list, including story memory.
list_readingsAll your readings — standalone or as chapters — with filters by novel.
get_readingA single reading's source text, driving questions, sections, and optional student responses.
Access & pricing
AI tool calls require Smart-Reader Pro — the same access you already need on the website. Every path counts:
- Active paid subscription
- 14-day free trial (new accounts)
- Teacher license or co-teacher seat
- Student in a class with a teacher license
Without one of the above, tool calls politely return an upgrade message. As soon as you're on any paid plan, every AI you've connected regains access automatically — no reconnecting.
Privacy
The connector only exposes data that already belongs to your account — the novels, chapters, and readings you can see when you sign in. It cannot access other users' data or make edits. Revoke access anytime by removing the connector in your AI client or resetting your Smart-Reader password.
